What is an Indian eVisa?
An Indian e-visa is a travel document that allows India nationals to visit the country visa-free for 90 days. To obtain an Indian e-visa, you must first apply online. After your application is processed, you will receive an email notification indicating that your e-visa has been approved. You can then print out your e-visa and carry it with you when traveling to India.
To use your Indian e-visa, you must present it upon arrival at the airport or port of entry. If you are traveling to India from a non-designated country, please read the following information carefully before submitting your application:
You must have a passport that is valid for at least six months after your planned return date from India;
Your passport must be valid for travel to all countries except Bhutan and Nepal; and

If you are traveling as part of a group of five or more people, each member of your group must have an approved Indian e-visa before boarding the plane. How do I apply for an Indian eVisa?
To apply for an Indian e- visa, you will need to visit the website of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). You will need to provide your passport information and other required documentation. Once you have submitted your application, you will be notified of the approval or rejection status. If your application is approved, you will receive an email notification with further instructions. If your application is rejected, you will receive a notice outlining the reasons for the rejection.
What are the Indian Visa requirements for visiting India?
Visiting India for tourism purposes is easy as Indian visas are not required for citizens of most countries. However, visitors should be aware that certain requirements must be met in order to obtain an Indian visa. These requirements vary depending on the type of visa you are applying for.
First time visitors who are not nationals of any Schengen country and do not hold a valid passport from one of the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy Latvia Lithuania Luxembourg Malta Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal Romania Slovakia Slovenia Spain Sweden will have to apply for an e-visa. A fee of INR 1000 (approximately USD 16) applies for this service. Nationals of all other countries can visit India without having to apply for a visa in advance.
Nationals of all other countries who want to stay more than 180 days and wish to visit specific tourist destinations in India such as Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Mumbai (Maharashtra), Hyderabad (Telangana), Kochi ( Kerala ) etc., must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). The ETA costs USD 100 and can be applied online at indianembassy.org/eta or at the nearest Indian embassy or consulate abroad. A visa application form is NOT required when applying for an E- Visa.
Are there any exceptions to the Indian visa requirements?
There are a few exceptions to the Indian visa requirements that may allow you to visit India without a visa.
Some travelers who hold diplomatic or official passports from countries that are part of the Schengen Area, such as the United States, may be exempt from having to apply for an Indian visa.
Additionally, nationals from Taiwan and South Korea are also exempt from some of the Indian visa requirements.
